What Is 3D Oral Imaging?
When you need diagnostic information to make well-informed dental decisions, you can count on our 3D cone beam oral scanner at Made Ya Smile Dental in Kingwood, TX. Some treatments require a whole-mouth approach in imaging so that every aspect of the oral cavity is taken into consideration. We offer an innovative 360-degree view of your skull, face, teeth, bone, and other detailed structures in your mouth and jaw. X-rays cannot compete with their 2D view when it comes to seeing the details in tooth decay, bone loss, and more in relation to the rest of the teeth and facial structures in full 3D. You may need 3D imaging for a full-mouth reconstruction, orthodontics, or a record of how the teeth are developing after certain treatment interventions. We would love to show you our 3D digital imaging. Contact us today to learn more.
"I am extremely terrified of the dentist and the staff treated me so kindly and had extraordinary patience with me! In particular Sonia and Dr. Olson, they really helped keep me calm. It’s been over a decade since I’ve been to a dentist and with their care, I’ll be able to return and start truly taking care of my mouth. Thank you all and I highly recommend Made Ya Smile Kingwood! Who Is a Candidate for 3D Oral Scans?
You may be a candidate for a 3D imaging session if you need:
- An evaluation of your jaw, face, neck, and/head as a whole
- To ascertain dental implant placement
- A scan for bone loss, tooth decay, and other dental problems
- An image to diagnose if root canal therapy is needed
- Documentation of dental and facial traumas or injuries
- An image as a starting point for orthodontic treatment or TMJ disorder therapies
We have the cone beam 3D technology to visualize the construction of your teeth, mouth, jaw, neck, ears, nose, and throat.
How Does 3D Oral Imaging Work?
Having 3D scans performed is no different than having x-rays taken. Our team may use our advanced cone beam scanning system as part of a dental exam or when preparing for a specific treatment — just like an x-ray. All you have to do is stand for less than a minute while the machine rotates around your head, making a 360-degree image of your teeth and jaw. The images are saved and added to your electronic dental record to use now and for reference in the future during and after treatment to see progress or where changes need to be made.
If you are a female patient, we will ask if you are or could be pregnant so that we can provide you with the safest alternatives.
What Happens After the 3D Imaging Process?
There is no need for a follow-up appointment after having 3D imaging. We will use your images to guide your treatment planning. As stated before, we will store your images privately on your own electronic dental record. Having these images as a reference can provide your dentist with valuable information for treatment planning for your current concerns and to see how your overall oral health develops over time.
Does Insurance Cover 3D Dental Imaging?
We will contact your insurance provider about 3D imaging to see if it is covered under your current plan before performing the scans. Some plans do include this type of imaging once a year (especially for children and their developing teeth and bite). Our Made Ya Smile Dental family practice is a provider for most major PPO plans, accepts several convenient payment options, and can help you apply for flexible patient financing through CareCredit®.
