What to Expect
Having 3D scans performed is no different than having x-rays taken. Our team may use our advanced cone beam scanning system as part of a dental exam or when preparing for a specific treatment — just like an x-ray. All you have to do is stand for less than a minute while the machine rotates around your head, making a 360-degree image of your teeth and jaw. The images are saved and added to your electronic dental record to use now and for reference in the future during and after treatment to see progress or where changes need to be made.
If you are a female patient, we will ask if you are or could be pregnant so that we can provide you with the safest alternatives.
There is no need for a follow-up appointment after having 3D imaging. We will use your images to guide your treatment planning. As stated before, we will store your images privately on your own electronic dental record. Having these images as a reference can provide your dentist with valuable information for treatment planning for your current concerns and to see how your overall oral health develops over time.
We will contact your insurance provider about 3D imaging to see if it is covered under your current plan before performing the scans. Some plans do include this type of imaging once a year (especially for children and their developing teeth and bite).
